MAIN PURPOSE
Manage and interpret the application of group lending*underwriting policies and procedures. Assess the commercial risk decisions based on applications and referrals received within the New Business Processing team.
ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Sub prime and prime Underwriting decisions on applications and referrals within defined mandate limits and agreed departmental service standards.
- Effectively manage specialist underwriting enquiries from customers, sales channels, introducers and clients.
- Ensure an up to date understanding of the Group`s lending and Higher Lending Charge criteria.
- Provide advice and support to all underwriters in the Client New Business Processing team(s).
- Assist Team Manager with training and development of underwriters to achieve department objectives.
- Approval of new and further loans for funding.
- Ensure compliance with legislative, regulatory and internal procedures.
- Support Team Manager in ongoing development and roll out of Lending Policy.
- Support and lead (where appropriate) key projects across New Business Processing.
- Liaise with appropriate parties and Clients to ensure information is obtained to enable an informed lending decision whilst not compromising credit quality.
- Case management*ownership of applications*customer (when required) from application submission through to funding.
- Proactively offer and sell the Society`s general insurance products to customers to ensure the introducer desk achieves the targets set (where required).
- Flexibility regarding working hours to ensure the introducer desk`s core hours of 8.30a.m. till 6.00p.m. are covered.
- Provide information to introducers on the products and services the Society offers (where required).
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Proven track record preferably in sub prime mortgage lending to include previous mortgage processing and underwriting experience (ideally 2 – 3 years sub prime underwriting experience).
- Excellent communication and inter personal skills with an ability to explain decisions confidently and clearly.
- CeMap qualified preferred.
MANDATE LEVEL (mandate levels may require adjustment to meet any changes in proposed lending policy due to our entry into sub prime lending)
- £190,000 up to 95% LTV, and £200,000 up to 90% LTV, and £250,000 up to 80% LTV
